Our Brand Heritage

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” Confucius

With more than 40 years’ experience ranging from professional sailor to finance director of a Merchant Bank Mr Paul Archer was ready for a change from London life.

However, Mr Archer has always had the ability to build a team of quality people transmitting his values and beliefs resulting in a team dedicated to exceed client’s expectation.

Having a lifelong connection with the yachting industry Paul had realised the need for an independent company specialising in yacht management & construction.

During the last 20 years Arrow has built yachts on 4 continents and has clientele from more than 35 different countries.

In 1997 Arrow Services Monaco was established.

Creating synergy in a cross cultural industry both internally and externally can be difficult.

Our management division now covers yachts navigating in every corner of the globe with Arrow representative offices in USA, Thailand & Australia and our head office in Monaco.

Today Arrow Services Monaco continues to grow based on reputation and has been branded the “Independent family office for Superyacht Management & Construction”.

From 1949 to 2018

Paul Archer story

Paul Archer came from a large and warm family in post war Sydney Australia.

Times were difficult and disciplines were fair, demanding and character building.

Unfortunately, he developed Polio when he was 1 year old. Paul learnt too young his first lesson – how to fight in order to be able to walk and conquer his disability.

Completing his higher education he started work at Chartered Accountants, Peat Marwick Mitchell in Sydney as an audit clerk while undertaking at night school his accounting and economics studies.

Sailing from the age of 11, sailing became a passion and preoccupation. 1968 was the year of his first Sydney Hobart race and followed in 1969 with a second place in class on the yacht ‘THUNDERBOLT’ being narrowly beaten by the late UK Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath on board Morning Cloud.

In summer 1972 Paul was invited to join the crew of the racing yacht ‘MISTRESS QUICKLY’ for a series of races in the Mediterranean. This first exposure to Europe and the yacht industry was the catalyst that set Paul on his career path. Returning to Australia he completed his studies qualifying in 1974 as a CPA.

Engaged to marry his UK girlfriend whom he met while racing in the Med he worked his passage to the UK on the Port Line refrigerated cargo vessel “Port Launceston” as a supernumerary deck officer.

Working in the City of London for an International Trading House his weekends were spent in Cowes racing the RORC offshore season

Paul was a crew member on the yacht “Quailo” during the infamous 1979 Fastnet race- “character building” is his description of this event.

Marina Developments Ltd (MDL) hired Paul to head their finance department and he was involved in the financing arrangements for building new marinas and expanding the network of boat sales agencies.

Period as Finance Director of a “niche” merchant bank followed by establishing with two partners a London based property investment and development company.

Looking to reconnect to the yacht market he was asked by a subsidiary of a Swiss Bank to head a consultancy division advising UHNW clients on ownership and management of yachts.

Unsatisfied and bound by restrictions imposed on the yacht consultancy he took the decision to create the yacht management company that would satisfy what he saw as the specific needs of yacht owners in a more professional way. Monaco was chosen as the logical location for the new business as Paul believed it essential to be at the heart of the business. Arrow was to be the vehicle for delivering his accumulation experiences and skills for providing proactive services in yacht management.

In transit at Bangkok Paul received a call from leading London maritime lawyers to take on the documentation for purchase by their client of a fleet of 8 yachts with a deadline of 3 weeks in order to meet the funding banks loan criteria. Arrow documentation team found that in nearly all cases the essential paperwork available was insufficient and every yacht was out of class. Mammoth task and the deadline was met.

Yerin Hobson commences as yacht manager.
Delivery of a new 150ft Motor Yacht in the USA presented a Swiss law firm with an urgent problem. The client had given no thought to the flagging, operation, crewing and management of his new yacht which he wished to use immediately upon delivery. Question could Arrow help. Answer was ‘yes’ the client was happily using his yacht in the Bahamas three weeks later. Satisfied with the Arrow management services the client requested Arrow’s involvement as owners representatives in a new 63m build project.
The Arrow management division continues to grow with the addition of  a 31m sailing yacht and 45m motor yacht joining the fleet.

63 m Yacht owner approached Arrow to manage his new vessel having lost faith in the current yacht managers. ASM took over the management of this hugely successful yacht and the client was extremely happy with the management change.

After many years of close cooperation with CGL Finance (Societe Generale’s Yacht Finance Division) ASM signed a partnership agreement to be a preferred supplier for yacht consultancy, registration and other marine related support. Arrow joined a select group of yacht professionals recognised as a specialist in their area. Other recognised brands to be invited to this select group include:-Princess Yachts, Sunseeker, Sessa, Fountain Pajot, Azimut /Benetti.

2015 - due to our reputation....

In 2014, the owner of Zeelander asked the Arrow technical department to review the entire technical and contractual documentation of a new 50m explorer yacht.  We reviewed, commented and amended all documentation in conjunction with the designers and naval architect to ensure the project was ready for public launch.

A lawyer for a high profile client was concerned that the yacht manager of a new build 52m yacht was not competent to ensure the paperwork, certification and registration of the new vessel would be ready for the clients first cruise. Could Arrow assist? – answer yes the client boarded his new vessel on the schedule with all documentation in place.

Madame Carla Demaria, Director of Beneteau, called to request a meeting at the Paris Boat Show to see how Arrow could assist in explaining to their French sales conferences the importance of assisting the potential clients in the ownership and structuring of their yachts.logo-rivenditore-barche-nuove-beneteau

Due to our reputation as a purely independent project management company we were introduced to a serial yacht owner wishing to build yet another new yacht. As to the increasing size of the yachts the client wished to use different build team more familiar with the intricacies of larger Superyacht construction and onwards management. This vessel is currently still under construction and scheduled for delivery in 2017 where she will join the Arrow management fleet.

During 2015 we have been contacted by two separate clients regarding the construction an 80m explorer and a larger 3000GT+ explorer.
Both these projects are the largest we have been fully involved in with since the launch of Arrow in 1997.
We have been requested to conduct a full project review including specification, drawings and contracts and in one case put together a ship yard tendering package.
In two separate teams we worked on the projects to meet the clients demands allowing them to make the correct informed decisions to negotiate correctly with the builders.
Both clients are extremely happy with our performance.

We have continued to expand our operations and relocated to our new headquarters in the heart of Monte Carlo.
Our long term Technical Director, Yerin Hobson, becomes our new Managing Director.

Our operations continue to expand at home and overseas, including two new major refits underway in the Southern Hemisphere.
